  • The allowance of alcohol per adult (21 years old and over) is 2.25litres
  • The allowance of cigarettes is 200 sticks (equivalent of 1 brick or carton) per adult – 21 years and over
  • The allowance of tobacco is 250grams per adult – 21 years and over
  • Fireworks is a restricted import unless you are granted with a Permit to Import by Samoa Police.
  • You must provide Customs with an invoice or receipt of purchase as confirmation of the price you paid for a commodity.
  • The excess amount of litres of alcohol or excess amount of cigarettes will be subject to duty and taxes payable on the spot. The taxes mentioned refers to VAGST and Import Excise tax.
  • All vehicles should be 10 years old or less from the manufactured year for both Right Hand and Left Hand Drives, for example, vehicles assembled in 2009 are permitted into Samoa this year (2019). You can import any type of RHD cars whereas Sedan, SUV and Pickup are the only LHDs permitted.  Buses are prohibited.

  • You must provide an Ownership/De- registration Certificate and the confirmation letter from the supplier.
  • You must provide a packing list of all goods inside the container, the Bill of Lading together with receipts of any new items.
  • The actual cost of duty to be paid is determined from the contents of the box after physical examination by the Customs Office
  • Restricted goods are goods that are regulated under any other enactment or the Customs Act that requires a satisfaction of permit or a certificate to allow importation into Samoa/subject to the approval of a competent authority
  • Prohibited goodsare those goods for which importation and exportation have been completely banned for reasons linked to health, environment, protection of endangered species of flora and fauna, security, legislation etc.
  • You either pay with Samoan currency only or legitimate company cheque.
  • Yes it is an obligation to provide Customs with your passport together with your arrival declaration card and any other documents such as your ticket (including e-ticket) or itinerary, boarding pass, receipts of payment, etc when required by a Customs officer at the airport/wharf.

  • Yes, under Section 34 of the Customs Act 2014, the use of any electronic device within a Customs Controlled Area is strictly prohibited.
  • Customs will detain the dutiable goods if you cannot meet the payment of duty and/or other taxes on the spot and issue a Notice of Detention for the goods and transfer the custody of the goods to the Customs main office at Matautu-tai to await the full payment of duty and/or other taxes before release.
